Dato' Loy added, "Tan Sri has brought about many innovations and improvements in the higher education and research sectors in Malaysia. In recognition for his contributions, Tan Sri was bestowed with the National Science Laureate in 1993, National Academician in 2008, and conferred the Emeritus Professor by University Terengganu Malaysia and University Putra Malaysia."
"Tan Sri also holds the position of Chairman for the Taylor's Education Group since 2006, and has been a crucial part of Taylor's developments over the last few years. As such, it comes as no surprise that when it came to electing our very first Chancellor, Tan Sri was the obvious choice," continued Dato' Loy.
The Convocation Ceremony, which was also witnessed by Taylor's University Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Dato' Dr. Hassan Said; Deputy Vice Chancellor Mr Pradeep Nair; and Taylor's College President, Mr Lim Tou Boon, saw a total of 624 students graduate from the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts, School of Architecture, Building and Design, School of Communication, and Taylor's Business School.
Addressing the graduating cohort in his first address as Chancellor, Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim, said, "Taylor's innovative approach towards education has been a primary factor in its success thus far. Not only has Taylor's led the way in many innovative practices over the years, we have also been very adaptable to changing times. Our commitment to Taylor's Graduate Capabilities or TGC is one such example. With TGC, students are encouraged to become intentional learners. Which means their learning does not stop at the classroom, but extends beyond boundaries – creating students who are more than just academically excellent."
Taylor's University offers foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from the brand new Taylor's Lakeside Campus, which opened its doors to students in January 2010.
