The Scarlet Omen: A Debut Novel of Myth and Legend

It comes with great pride to share with you that one of our many distinguished alumni, Cinthia Koeksal has recently achieved an amazing milestone in her life. Cinthia recently released her first novel entitled “The Scarlet Omen” published by Parker Publising Inc.

The first novel in a planned trilogy, The Scarlet Omen charts the tale of Anjeli Xavier, a rebellious Malaysian teenager who has been plagued by visions of blood lust, translucent spirits and Bornean pygmies all her life.

The Scarlet Omen, a sensational piece of young adult fiction by Taylor’s alumni, Cinthia Koeksal portrays the symbiotic relationship between Western advancements and Eastern superstitions where teenagers are able to discuss ghosts and demons with the same enthusiasm with which they compare their latest iPad apps. In this intricately woven tale of humour, unconditional love and hair-raising magic, readers will be snatched up in a whirlwind adventure that will take them on a magical journey between worlds accompanied by a colourful band of witches, vampires, dragons and fairies.

Find out if destiny comes to claim its own or if tyranny and black magic prevail forever.  Parker Publishing Inc. presents The Scarlet Omen: available on, Barnes& and in June 2012.

A Little about the Author

Cinthia was born by the beach in Kuantan, Pahang and moved around Malaysia a lot with my parents. She spent a few memorable years in Kuching, Sarawak where she got most of her inspiration for her first novel “The Scarlet Omen”. She then moved back to Kuala Lumpur and stayed there till 2001. Cinthia got married in 2001 and now lives in the country of white sausages and fast cars (Germany) with her husband and son.

Cinthia said, “Little did I know that my year at Taylor’s would be a stepping stone to new horizons. The dedicated lecturers and amazing learning environment was always an incentive to attend classes instead of cutting school and going to play snooker down the road. English lessons—my favourite part of the day—with Ms. Angelene was an additional dose of fun.  My friends and I still look back at our year at Taylor’s as one of the best of our lives, both educationally and socially.”
